EKG (Electrocardiograph) Technician Program

This program is designed to give the student an understanding of the basic anatomy (structure) and physiology (function) of the heart and a case-based approach to EKG interpretation. The ECG/EKG Technician program teaches students the basics of an EKG. Students learn the heart’s electrical conduction system as well as it’s structure and function. They are instructed on waves and complexes, timing, paper speed, varieties of machines and troubleshooting techniques. Students will know the correct placement of the leads of the EKG and how to prepare the patient for the exam. They also learn to analyze the EKG tracings for normal rhythms or cardiac arrhythmias. Electrocardiograph Technician Program prepares the entry level technician for work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Inpatient facilities include hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. Examples of outpatient settings are physician’s offices and home health care agencies.
